The school offers a wide range of subjects to Year 13 level. Particular subjects taught in each year level depend on student choice. The school has specialist teachers to NCEA Level 3 and Scholarship Level in the following subjects.

In addition to this the school can offer an almost limitless number of options through the STAR, Gateway and Video Conference facilities in the school.
STAR (Secondary Tertiary Alignment Resource) programmes are generally short term courses which traditionally have been offered by Polytechnics or apprenticeships. KALS receives significant funding from the Ministry of Education to be able to place Year 11-13 students in these courses, previous examples have included carpentry, automotive mechanics, diving, hair dressing, barista, first aid, ATV training, Army Training Course, Sound Engineering etc.
Gateway courses are designed to prepare students to transition to the workforce. Students are placed in the workforce for one day a week and may also attend training courses.
Video Conference facilities involve students being part of a classroom which is taught from another school over the Video Conference Network. Students observe a monitor from which they can engage with their teacher and other students. Examples of subjects recently include Chinese, history, accounting, equine studies etc.
